The Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan is due to announce Budget 2016 on the afternoon of Tuesday 13, October 2015. There has been a lot of discussion and speculation surrounding the measures that might be introduced, particularly in light of the upcoming general election. Some commentators are billing this as a “giveaway budget” which could see the incumbent government partaking in some auction politics and trying to sway voters by providing various tax cuts and spending increases. Other commentators expect this budget, which is the final budget of the current government, to mark an end to the austerity measures that have been a common feature since the troika of the IMF, ECB and EC took charge of the Irish purse strings in the recent past.
